Bringing Holiday Magic to Waukesha County: A Spotlight on Christmas Clearing Council

I love the twinkling lights and festive decorations of the season, but I love something else more: the feeling of community and compassion when we come together to ensure that every child experiences the magic of Christmas morning.

Here in Waukesha County, one organization has been doing exactly that for decades: the Christmas Clearing Council.

Who They Are

Founded in 1912, the Christmas Clearing Council is one of the oldest charitable organizations in Waukesha County. For over 110 years, they’ve been dedicated to a singular mission: providing Christmas gifts to children whose families are facing financial hardship. What started as a small grassroots effort has grown into a cornerstone of our community, touching the lives of thousands of local families each year.

They operate entirely through volunteers and donations, embodying the true spirit of neighbors helping neighbors. They work year-round to ensure that when December arrives, no child in Waukesha County goes without gifts under the tree.

What They Do

Every December, the Christmas Clearing Council transforms into a winter wonderland toy shop where qualifying families can “shop” for free toys for their children. Parents select age-appropriate gifts, preserving their dignity and allowing them to experience the joy of giving to their own children, even during difficult times.

The organization serves hundreds of families annually, providing multiple gifts per child. From infants to teenagers, the organization ensures every age group is represented with quality toys, books, games, and more. Their mission is not only about the physical gifts, it’s about restoring hope and showing families they’re not alone.

How to Get Involved

Ready to make a difference this holiday season? Here’s how you can help:

  • Volunteer: Sign up to help at their events or run a toy drive at your school, church, or community.
  • Donate: They rely entirely on community donations to purchase toys and operate their programs. Financial contributions, gift cards, and new, unwrapped toys, books, mittens, and gloves are always welcome. You can find out more information about donation drop-off sites here.
  • Spread the Word: Share information about the Christmas Clearing Council with friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. The more people who know about this incredible organization, the more children we can serve.

Here is some more information about two specific ways you can help the Christmas Clearing Council in 2025:

Toy Shop Weekend: December 18–20

The Christmas Clearing Council’s 2025 Toy Shop weekend is quickly approaching, and they’re looking for volunteers to fill various roles:

  • Thursday, December 18:
    4:30–7:00 PM: 2 Parking Attendants
  • Saturday, December 20:
    7:15 AM–1:00 PM: 2 Parking Attendants
    7:30–11:15 AM: 20 Shopping Guides & 20 Toy Runners
    10:45 AM–2:30 PM: 70 Shopping Guides & 20 Toy Runners
    2:00–4:00 PM: 15 Clean-Up Crew

Whether you can spare a few hours or the entire day, your time and energy directly impact families in our community. Shopping Guides help parents navigate the toy selection process with warmth and respect, while Toy Runners ensure the operation flows smoothly behind the scenes. Every role matters.

Sweet Treats for a Sweeter Cause

Can’t volunteer but still want to help? Here’s a delicious way to support the Christmas cause: Head to Bubba’s at 1276 Capitol Drive in Pewaukee and treat yourself to their Limited-Time Chocolate Candy Cane Sundae – a decadent swirl of chocolate and peppermint that perfectly captures the holiday spirit.

This festive favorite is only available through December 31, and proceeds from every sundae sold support the Christmas Clearing Council!

Building Community Together

As someone deeply rooted in Southeastern Wisconsin, I believe we have a responsibility to lift up our neighbors, especially during the holidays. The Christmas Clearing Council exemplifies what makes our community special: people caring for people, no strings attached.

This season, whether you volunteer at the Toy Shop, enjoy a sundae at Bubba’s, or simply share this message with someone who might be interested, you’re contributing to something bigger than yourself. You’re ensuring that children wake up on Christmas morning with smiles on their faces and hope in their hearts.

Let’s come together and make this holiday season brighter for every family in Waukesha County.
