Summer Bucket List for Families in Southeastern Wisconsin

Who doesn’t love a good summer bucket list?!

Not only does it help you prioritize all of the amazing opportunities you can look forward to, but once the sun sets on summer, you can look back at it as a reminder of the dozens of memories you’ve packed into the past few months. For those of us in Wisconsin, we know that gorgeous summer weather goes quickly, so we have to make it count!

Whether you are looking for irreverent fun or a little bit of learning, there are plenty of ideas in Southeastern Wisconsin to help fill your family’s summer with amazing experiences and memories.

Milwaukee Zoo

A summer bucket list isn’t complete without a visit to a zoo, and the Milwaukee Zoo does not disappoint! The zoo’s focus on sustainability and conservation offers an educational atmosphere while your family sees the amazing animal exhibits.

If you would like more adventure while viewing the animals, you can take a ride on the Safari Train or the Sky Safari. If you really want to walk on the wild side, try out the zoo’s zip line or ropes course!

Yerkes’ Observatory

Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay checks both the “learning” and “fun” boxes – and I bet you haven’t heard of it! Not only are there guided tours of the amazing architecture, but there are also exclusive night sky viewing opportunities using the world’s largest refracting telescope.

Mitchell Park Domes

The Mitchell Park Domes are a must-see in southeastern Wisconsin. Featuring both indoor and outdoor horticultural exhibits and LED light shows, their mission is to educate and “inspire people through plants.” With the beauty housed in this location, your family will leave inspired!

Brewers Game

There is just something about a warm summer afternoon, a stadium hot dog, and enjoying America’s favorite pastime. Watching the Brewers on their Milwaukee home turf will delight the whole family. Check out the schedule and ticket purchase options, and you can cross another item off your family’s bucket list!

Bristol Renaissance Fair

Step back in time at the Bristol Renaissance Fair, hosted throughout the summer! With live entertainment, delicious food, rides, and games, you’ll find something for everyone at this Kenosha fair. You can even stop by the Queen’s College to learn about maille, blackwork stitching, brass rubbing, basket weaving, candle making, and more.

Lake Geneva

The Lake Geneva region is renowned for its bucket list potential. If your family is looking for outdoor adventures, options such as golfing, mountain biking, or riding in a hot air balloon abound. If you would prefer a bit of pampering, try visiting the local spas, boutiques, and wineries. No matter your preference, this Wisconsin treasure has you covered.

Lake Mills

Lake Mills offers a peaceful retreat for those who want to get into nature – and I would know! I grew up here! With a number of park, pier, and beach options, it’s the perfect bucket list option in Southeastern Wisconsin to rejuvenate while enjoying the outdoors.

Fourth of July Fireworks and Parades

Some of my best memories include marching with my high school’s marching band in our local Fourth of July parade, so you know I have to include a few parades on this list!

There are a number of towns that boast Fourth of July fireworks displays and parades. Oak Creek, Racine, and Brookfield all host fun celebrations and parades that will make you feel festive and patriotic!

I hope you enjoy some of these opportunities to explore all that Wisconsin has to offer. When it comes to creating a bucket list, Southeastern Wisconsin makes it easy to have some wholesome, family-focused summertime fun!
